Hey there, Berries.
It's been such a nice, relaxing break! I'm kind of slow
getting back in the swing of school.
Although the break was pretty awesome
(Most all I did was lay in bed with my cats),
I'm grateful to be back in the dorm.
I have an order and schedule when I'm here.
So, I took so, so, SO many pictures when I was at home!
I'm overwhelmed. >.<
There are endless pictures of my cats,
pictures of my ever- changing decorations,
pictures of the product of my thrifting addiction... *cough cough*...
I don't know where to begin!!
I'm just going to show you the pictures I took (only some of them)
and do a little explaining as I go (:
Here are some (more) pictures of my room at home
all dressed up for Christmastime...
Since I change things around a lot,
this white bookshelf is no longer in my room, but in my dad's office.
I prefer to stick to natural wood anyway.
Taking its place is- drumroll- the short, fat shelf
I mentioned in the last post!
Ta-da!
I like this one a lot more than the white one (:
Itsa, my kitty you see below, followed me around
all break. I believe she was happy I was home.
She slept under my covers
and sat on my lap nearly every time I sat down.
I miss her! Out of the five cats we have,
she is mine. She's lived with us nearly eleven years.
Toothless from "How to Train your Dragon" reminds me of her.
So, in a way, I have a little piece of her with me in my stuffed dragon ^.^
Here is Tiki.
I could not help but put this picture up.
She looks like absolute royalty!
She doesn't do much of anything but what she's doing in the picture.
Here's Little Bit.
We have a plethora of names for this little rascal,
but Little Bit seems to be the most common.
She is a real trouble maker, but, gosh darn it, she's so cute!
This is Jo.
Jo is short for Josephine, but Jo suits her more
as she doesn't act like a lady at all.
All of the bad habits Little Bit has were acquired from Jo.
They team up on missions to open food cupboards,
steal human food, steal cat food from the other cats,
attack the other cats
and eat random things.
They also team up on being cute, however,
which makes it nearly impossible for the humans to punish them.
Look closely, and you'll see that Jo sleeps with her tongue out.
I think it's just a clever defense mechanism.
There's one more kitty, Speckles, but she's a little camera shy...
I will show her to you eventually!
... Ah, I miss my candles burning...
Above is the movie Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas.
I probably watched it around twenty times during the break.
It's so nostalgic and relaxing.
During my month-long break, I didn't only hang out with the fur babies.
I also spent time with Mommy!
While Dad was at work, I'd sit beside her with a cup of coffee.
We'd talk and look at decorating magazines or watch TV.
This also gave me a chance to familiarize myself with Blue Bloods,
one of her favorite shows.
I also dyed my hair blue again.
When it was blue my first semester in college, one of my friends said to me,
"You're like a Musical Blueberry." (I'm a music major.)
The name sounded so cute to me, and I kept it.
Now you know!
My hair isn't blue anymore, however.
It's sad to hear myself say it, but I think I outgrew it.
Onto the Christmas presents, everyone!
Most of the presents I'm showing are thrifted and antiqued by yours truly.
For Christmas every year, I get money from Dad to go shopping.
Of course, the next day it's off to the resale shops!
The pink decorative ball, the sign that's in the basket,
the gold "Merry Christmas" sign and the blue snowflake
are from Kirkland's.
They have great sales, guys!
Below, the pitcher and two teacups beside it were antiqued for less
that five dollars. The other teacup was free from an antique shop (Yeah, crazy, right),
and the adorable salt and pepper shakers were a dollar for the pair
at a thrift store.
The two silver spoons were antiqued at a dollar a piece...
And here is the big one!
I really spoiled myself this year and got an antique wardrobe
for around $180.
I know.
Crazy.
Normally I wouldn't spend that much money on anything,
but I was hunting for one to replace my dresser.
I prefer skinnier, more elegant furniture
to rustic, clunky furniture.
Both mirrors are still in tact,
it still has the key,
it isn't wobbly,
and one of the drawers opens into a little shelf.
It was screaming, "Put a teacup on me!!"
So, I listened, and here it is.
Here are some hand-me-down dishes
I got from my Mommy (:
I will consider them Christmas presents.
This spice rack, above, was thrifted for a dollar.
I took off all the stickers that were on it, scrubbed it down
and rubbed it with lemon oil. Ta-da!
Good as new.
My shelf doesn't look the same with the absence of
Christmas ornaments. It is still beautiful, though, and still
my favorite part of my room at home...
I've found that if I could change anything in that room,
I would make the walls white or light.
I thought I liked dark walls, but living in the white-walled dormitory that I'm in
made me realize I like light walls.
Light walls can be made cozy with dark wood furniture and thick curtains,
but they can also be natural and airy with an open window and
a live plant or something.
That's a good thing to know
before getting my own place, I guess.
(:
Whew!
I told you that was a lot!
I hope you enjoyed looking at my pictures and reading my ramblings.
There will be more to come- I haven't shown you my dorm room yet!
God bless you all!
Until next time,
Lots of Love,
